The third annual Amy Biehl Foundation Youth Spirit Award event was held on Saturday, 14 August 2010 sponsored by Damelin and Old Mutual. It was also the commemoration event celebrating the life and legacy of Amy Biehl who died in 1993. The Amy Biehl Foundation traditional dancers, gumboot dancers, kwaito dancers, recorders, marimbas and choir together with Aviva Pelham, performed to a captive audience. Thembi Mtshali-Jones was MC and Linda Biehl and the Mayor, Mr Dan Plato handed over the Award.

The Amy Biehl Foundation has welcomed volunteers from Northern Ireland annually since 2006. The Irish raise funds and donate sporting equipment to the Amy Biehl Foundation and spend a week each year coaching soccer and hockey and training students in first aid in the townships of Cape Town.

In a move that will dramatically improve service delivery and
have a significant impact on reducing unemployment, violence, crime,
substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and HIV/Aids, the Canadian High
Commission, through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA),
will fund the upskilling of the entire staff and management team of leading
community organization, the Amy Biehl Foundation.

Four Capetonians will be braving what has become one of the biggest cycling events in South Africa. The Cape Epic, the Magical and Untamed African mountain bike race, has put the country on the international cycling map with a bang and is, in fact, one of the biggest mountain bike races in the World. The cyclists are hoping to raise the public's awareness about, and funds for, the work being done by the Amy Biehl Foundation Trust with township children.

Thirty township girls, aged 12 to 15 years, from Cape Town were given the opportunity to boost their hockey skills during training sessions with the HV HIC Netherlands Ladies Hockey Club, Amstelveen. The sports development programme took place on 8 and 12 February 2010 at Hartleyvale. The overseas club travelled to South Africa to help grow the sport in the country and make a positive impact on the lives of the children from the township areas.
